Profit from the Pros Stocks Break Out To New Record Highs Stocks soared yesterday with all of the major indexes in the green. The Russell 2000 Small-Cap Index led the way with a 1.01% gain, while the Dow and the S&P both broke out to new all-time highs. As mentioned previously, the markets continue to take the tariff issues with China in stride. And this is largely because analysts are not expecting the tariffs to have much of an impact on our earnings or our GDP. That's not to say the tariffs won't sting a little. But at the moment, it looks like China is feeling the pinch more than the U.S. Fortunately, the U.S. economy has been on fire with the stock market at record highs, while at the same time China's economy is slowing down and their stock market has entered bear territory. No doubt that factored into their announcement yesterday that they plan to cut import tariffs from most of their trading partners to open their economy and make goods cheaper for consumers. It was not clear how this would affect U.S. goods. But the market seemed to like what it heard so far. In other news, yesterday's Weekly Jobless Claims came in better than expected, falling -3,000 to 201,000 vs. views for 210,000. The 4-week moving average was also down from 208K to 205.75K. The report cited that 'both of these readings are at new 50-year lows.' And the Philadelphia Fed Business Outlook Survey surged to 22.9 from last month's 11.9 and estimates for 19.6. New orders and shipments were the highlights once again. But it was noted that prices actually moderated last month, suggesting that capacity and tariff issues are not creating significant dislocations. All great news for the economy and the market. And stocks look poised for another up week and a new all-time high weekly close!
