Profit from the Pros Stocks Make New Highs With Small-Caps And Tech Leading The Way The markets ended mostly higher yesterday. But the Russell 2000 Small-Cap Index and the Nasdaq were the big stars with each one making new all-time highs. The gains over the last few weeks have been broad-based. But small-caps and tech have really outperformed. As you know, we've been super bullish on small-caps in particular, expecting them to take the leadership position in this next leg up. And that's exactly how it's been playing out. The best part is that it has only just begun! In other news, retail sales via the Redbook report showed full-month, y/y sales gains at 4.1%. Analysts noted this was the "second strongest reading of the year." The PMI Service Index rose again with a print of 56.8 vs. last month's 54.6 and views for 55.7. Rising backlogs and output, which are both at 3-year highs, were cited as standout components in the latest report. New orders as well, which are just off of a 3-year high. That report was underscored by the ISM Non-Manufacturing Index which came in at 58.6 vs. last month's 56.8 and estimates for 58.0. "Month-to-month growth across all 18 sectors tracked" was highlighted. And like the PMI report, "rising backlogs are a consistent theme." Once again, another round of stellar reports that point to an accelerating economy. And that's why stocks again are breaking out to new highs.
