Profit from the Pros Another Day, Another Record For The Market After a bit of volatility yesterday, which saw the markets trade on both sides of unchanged, they finished the day mostly higher with the Dow and the S&P closing at new all-time highs. Earnings continue to dominate trading. And earnings season has so far been fantastic. We dodged a bullet earlier this week when the government shutdown ended after only a few days. Another showdown is looming on Feb. 8th. No need to get overly concerned. And I doubt either side of the aisle would want to push for another shutdown. Nonetheless, it's an important date to mark on your calendar. The market will also be transfixed on what President Trump will say when he gives his speech in Davos today. In other news, Weekly Jobless Claims rose by 17,000 to 233,000. But that beat expectations which were calling for 240K. New Home Sales came in lighter than expected at 625,000 units (annualized) vs. the previous month's whopping 689K and views for 680K. But analysts were quick to point out that December's 625K number was the fourth best reading of this bull market expansion, and that November's was the best since this expansion began. The Kansas City Fed Manufacturing Index topped expectations with a print of 16 vs. views for 14. And Leading Indicators rose more than expected, gaining 0.6% vs. the previous month's 0.5% and views for the same. All in all, just more confirmation of a strong economy, further underscoring this historic bull market.
