Love this new strategy we've discovered
There are so many cool ways you can travel for less money than you think.
We tried one creative way this week, and it involved a barter of wine. I mean come on, does it get more creative and fun than that!
We recently joined Harvest Hosts, which is an RV annual membership that allows you to stay at places for "free".
Cool places like vineyards, lavender farms, museums and golf courses.
Typically all that is required is you buy a bottle of wine, some farm products or play a round of golf.
If you are going to be doing these things anyway (and spending money) why not barter it for a free night's camping spot.
You usually only get 1-2 nights free, but the locations are spectacular and I love that it gives you an opportunity to support local business and get to know their stories and experience their hospitality.
We stayed on the most beautiful vineyard the other night and were able to sit by the lake overlooking the vineyards enjoying a bottle of their chardonnay. It was a space reserved for weddings so you can imagine how pretty it was.
Rather than just spend money on a place to stay, I'd much prefer to spend it on a bottle of quality wine and get the accommodation with it. Wouldn't you?
Last night we stayed in the parking lot of an aviation museum. And while the setting wasn't as pretty, we spent the day in the water park attached and the kids had a blast shooting down the waterslides.
Tonight we are going to stay on a golf course and the men are going out for a hit.
It's a fantastic opportunity to travel cheaply and create wonderful memories. I wish we did it earlier and I hope we can do it some more over the coming months.
