Best thing ever or total disaster Sometimes you're just unsure of which road to take. Path A could lead to the best decision ever. Path B a total disaster. Making the decision can be easier if the path to result A or B is not too arduous. You feel like you don't lose too much if it's a disaster, but then perhaps the reward is not as great if it's a success. We were faced with this decision yesterday. Should we take the longer and more challenging road to see the supposed beautiful black sand beach in Northern California? Or should we just head straight to the redwood forest and be happy with a shorter (yet still long) adventure? It meant an extra two hours of steep, windy driving and the kids were already getting antsy after driving 2 hours to explore the spectacular Lost Coast coastline. It's not like we haven't seen many beaches before. Thankfully, we started our day tour early so we knew we had enough time to do it. We were hesitant to say yes, because we knew if it was a flop the arduous trek and then dealing with cranky kids would turn a good day sour. Something told us to take the risk. It was a path A decision. Fist pump! Wow! The Black Sand Beach and Shelter Cove in Humboldt County was just spectacular, showcasing yet another diverse side to California. It felt like we had walked onto the shores of Hawaii. Sheer mountain slopes met the black sand cove. We had near perfect warm weather as well so it was sparkling and there was no one around - very unusual for California. I'll be putting out photos in our Instagram stories this morning and on our feed so be sure to pop over to see it. This region is one of my favorite now in California. It's a place I'd love to return to for a quiet coastal village vacation. You never really know whether your choice will lead to the reward or the disaster. The worst thing you can do however is not make a choice. That's when you lose control and let outside influences make the choice for you and that rarely goes well. Go with your gut and learn to appreciate the bumpy windy road on the way there. At least then you can walk away with some kind of reward if the destination fails you. Have you had a situation like this on your travel when the decision lead you to something so amazing? How do you know whether to take Path A or B? Caroline P.S. Our week 27 wrap is live.
