Trading one view for another We’ve been changing our plans a bit lately to avoid cities. Now that I’ve entered the wilderness I just can’t seem to face them. We cancelled El Paso, opting for the desert of Tucson instead. “Oh thank goodness,” we exclaimed as we drove past the concrete sprawl. We escaped downtown Tucson after a very brief visit. There were too many buildings and choices and I just wanted to retreat back to Goldie and the cactus surrounding us. We planned to go to Phoenix for a week after Tucson. After hours researching to find a suitable RV place – almost impossible given that the majority of them are for age 55+ only! (Call the discrimination board.), the only options we found didn’t have great reviews. I felt the concrete jungle closing in on me. “Oh what are we even going to Phoenix for? Do we want to deal with another sprawling city?” I mean it might be a great place, but my entire psyche is just putting up a city wall. No more. Go West my friend. Wild West. Just be with nature. So it’s funny that I write this to you right now from my hotel room in one of the biggest urban jungles in the world – Manhattan! Oh my Lord, sensory overload. I love New York and am always happy to be here, but I sure do miss those red rocks and vortexes of Sedona I left yesterday. It’s with good reason I am here, and was planned for some time. The annual tourism IMM event is on, which is really important for us business wise. We’ve had this planned for some time. AND I was honored with the opportunity to speak on a panel at the New York Times travel Show the day after about travel blogging. You don’t say no to opportunities like that. So I’m here. I left Craig nd the girls in Sedona. Strangely, they were here last year with Craig’s family while I was speaking at TBEX in New York!! It is possibly in the top 5 places I most want to visit t in the US and I’m missing it once again. Thankfully I got three days in before I left and I plan on staying for some time after. With the natural healing energy of those vortexes I feel I belong in Sedona. That’s why we originally planned for Phoenix because I was flying in and out of there. But, after the drama, and realizing that would take up 10 days of our precious time on the road in the city. Uh oh. No thanks As we've mentioned, this trip is not about visiting places just for the sake of visiting them. Our heart HAS to call us there. Again, once we drove through Phoenix, I exhaled. “Oh thank god we chose Sedona. Just keep driving. Back in the wilderness where I have space to breathe and connect.” Except now I’m in New York running to meetings and events and work stuff. Lucky I do love this part of my business and I get to catch up with loads of my friends at the same time. But New York has that special kind of energy that I do love. I miss the team and the free and clear back in Sedona though! Caroline NEW ON THE BLOG Magical things to do in Sedona with kids This is from Craig's trip last year to Sedona.
