[View this email in your browser] Dear YNaija Reader, here are the top stories this week. El-Rufai vs Atiku The major political event this week was the blistering war of words between Nasir El-Rufai and Atiku Abubakar, also known as the unofficial start of the 2019 cycle. Atiku fired the [first] salvo, followed by this [return of fire] by the Kaduna State governor. Atiku also made other [statements] this week that show an increased, as well as trying to dab. No question about it, the next several months will be very interesting. Is it time for Godwin to go? Yes, according to the [emefielemustgo.com] website, whose main aim is to highlight all the ways the CBN governor is destroying the Nigerian economy. There is also [a petition] that will soon be making the rounds, demanding his resignation. Emefiele’s handling of Nigeria’s forex crisis, whatever the reasons for it, has been a disaster, and it is no wonder that so many are fed up. The story behind the lynching Widely circulated photos on social media early this week, appeared to show a little boy who was lynched and set on fire for stealing garri. Further investigation found that this was not the case, and the [tweets in this thread] provide important context about why people have resorted to self-help. Other highlights this week Inflation hit 18.3% for the month of October. Adams Oshiomhole’s pension was approved by the Edo State House of Assembly and no one is pleased, [least of all SERAP]. The FG has disbursed a total of [N220 billion] as budget support to 35 states. President Buhari has signed [8 bills] into law. The use of the DSS as arbiters in the forex market continues, with raids in [Kano], [Awka and Onitsha] against unlicensed BDC operators. It looks like Eyitayo Jegede’s bid to contest in the Ondo governorship election [is over]. There will also be no re-run elections in Rivers state. INEC has [postponed them once again].
