[View this email in your browser] Good evening, Death to abandoned projects! Today, the rail line from Abuja to Kaduna was opened for commercial [operations]. Buhari [graciously recognised previous administrations] for [commissioning and starting the project], and said the rail line was going to be the first of many more rail lines, as part of the transport policy. The Abuja-Kaduna rail line has been in progress since 2009, and it is good to see that it hasn’t joined the legion of abandoned projects across the country, a number that is in excess of 11,000 over the past 40 years. Also, Kaduna, a state making significant strides itself under Governor Nasir El-Rufai, can position itself to make maximum benefit from the rail line. Interesting times ahead. Nigeria comes together to #SaveMayowa Even in these difficult economic times, Nigerians still possess the proverbial milk of human kindness. Mayowa Ahmed was diagnosed with Stage IV ovarian cancer, and needed $100,000 for treatment in the US, and Nigerians [came together to help Mayowa] continue her fight for life. She travels this weekend with our very best wishes. Rivers election re-run postponed again Violence has become part of Rivers state to the point that elections cannot hold there. The legislative elections [have been postponed] yet again by INEC, following an incident of arson at the INEC office in Khana Local Government last week. It is so important for the various politicians in Rivers state to call their people to order and cease the violence, in order to let the state move forward. Looking for oil Is there any oil to be found on Nigeria’s side of the Chad Basin? Well, President Buhari seems to think so, and has [directed the NNPC to go looking for it]. There is some [circumstantial evidence] for an oil find, and if oil is ever discovered in commercial quantities, it could be a game changer. Finally, Adekunle Gold’s eponymous debut album just came out, and Ore Peters has [a list of five songs] you should check out.
