With our official release of the 2025 Almanac under way, let’s get to the question that most of our readers want answered first: What is the winter forecast this year? Without further ado, we share our general winter predictions—as well as our [winter weather maps for the U.S.]( and [for Canada](. Overall, both temperatures and snowfall will be near or below average throughout most of the United States. "While there will still be plenty of chilly temperatures and snow for most slopes, we’re predicting a temperate, uneventful winter—potentially a welcome reprieve from the extremes of recent years. The high heating costs associated with the season shouldn’t hit so hard," reports Carol Connare, the Almanac’s editor-in-chief. There will be exceptions, of course. Winter rainstorms will leave Florida, the Deep South, and southern California soaked. Meanwhile, heavy snowfall is expected in central and southern Appalachia, the western Ohio Valley, and the Rockies—calling all skiers and sledders! [Download The Winter Weather Forecast]( [Image - Husky]( Photo Credit: Shutterstock Canada: The 2025 Almanac Forecasts "Winter With a Heart of Cold" “‘Temperate’ is on tap for most of the Canada this winter, but let it snow in Ontario!” Carol Connare, the Almanac’s editor-in-chief, says, “A winter of big freezes and heavy snowfall will be centered in Ontario and eastern Manitoba, while most of the rest of the country will get some relief from snow shoveling and super-cold temperatures.” While Saskatchewan will be (mostly) spared the mountains of snow arriving to the east, the area should brace for below-average temperatures throughout the season. This chilling forecast is also true for the southern sections of British Columbia and Alberta. The most southerly portions of Alberta and Saskatchewan will also be soaked this winter, with a few snowstorms interspersed with other types of precipitation.
