This week Microsoft announced that it’ll send $85 billion to the shareholders. This includes… - $60 billion stock buyback - $25 billion dividend – a 10% increase It’s the #2 most valuable company – right behind Apple (NASDAQ: AAPL). This chart makes it easy to see that Microsoft is the GOAT. Microsoft has typically been buying back $3 - $4 billion of its stock per quarter. That translates into a total annual buyback of around $12 - $16 billion. This stock buyback plan is among the biggest ever announced. Additionally, the dividend will be increased by 10%. This marks the 20th consecutive year that Microsoft has raised its dividend. This chart shows that the annual dividend payments have grown from $0.08 in 2003 to $3.00 this year. The just-announced increase will bring the annual payout to $3.32 per share. Microsoft continues to grow faster than most companies in the S&P 500. CEO Satya Nadella has returned the company to a phase of growth and innovation.
