The migratory monarch butterfly population has drastically declined in the last 25 years, and is now listed as "endangered” by the IUCN. There are many reasons, but the main ones are climate change and the disappearance of milkweed—the only plants on which monarchs lay their eggs and the only source of food for baby caterpillars. It's worrying to think that this unique phenomenon could be gone as these beautiful creatures are losing their habitat right here in our own backyards. All hope is not lost. You, along with our powerful WWF community, can improve this dire situation for monarch butterflies by planting milkweed native to your area. Not sure what milkweed you should plant in your region? [Find out with our monarch milkweed finder](. [How you can help monarchs >]( By planting milkweed and nectar plants along monarch migration routes, we can provide a vital source of food and breeding habitat for these amazing creatures. Let's work together to create a brighter future for monarch butterflies and all wildlife that share our planet.
