Guest speakers are alumni from Montfort School with deep roots in Aukang. They are: Mr Ng Kok Song (Former Chief Investment Officer of GIC and current Chairman of Avanda Investment Management) and Brother Dominic Yeo-Koh (Supervisor of Schools, Montfort Brothers of St. Gabriel). They will share their personal stories of growing up in Aukang and how for generations, their alma mater, Montfort School served as the education hub for the Aukang community. Despite being a Catholic School, the school touched the lives of families of all faiths and backgrounds. It empowered children in the Kampungs with education and universal values that inspired them to realise their full potential and break out of the cycle of poverty. Written by author and speaker Shawn Seah, My Father's Kampung delves into the social history of Aukang and Punggol as it traces a son's journey to better understand and appreciate the Kampung life his father lived. The book is rich in personal stories and oral histories of those who lived there from the 1940s to 1970s, brought to life by Seah's passionate narrative as well as illustrations and photos. The talk is jointly organised by World Scientific and Montfort Alumni. The book is supported by the National Heritage Board, with Forewords by Montfort Alumni and renowned literary icon, Robert Yeo.
