His teaching is interdisciplinary and spans Divinity, History, Literature, and Linguistics. John has held teaching and research positions at the University of St Andrews, University College Dublin, and the University of Oxford, and has co-taught a several courses for the Orthodox Academy of Crete. John has a particular interest in the history of the Bible in translation. John’s forthcoming edition, The Old English Bible, Volume I: The Old English Heptateuch, makes the earliest English translation of the Old Testament available in an easily accessible reader’s edition for the first time. John Gallagher is an External Member of the Sheffield Centre for Interdisciplinary Biblical Studies and a Member of the Society of Antiquaries of Ireland, the Oxford Medieval Commentary Network, the Oxford Psalms Network, and External Scientific Collaborator for the Orthodox Academy of Crete. John is also the Assistant Editor of the Fontes Anglo-Saxonici database, the largest and most complete source database for Latin and vernacular literature from early medieval England. John is currently working on multilingual New Testament manuscripts from across the first millennium in the Latin West. John regularly writes and reviews for journals across Late Antique and Medieval theology, literature, and language.
