MSP trooper, Utah woman seriously hurt in 2-vehicle crash (13 July 2020, for {EMAIL})

BOSTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — Two people, including a Michigan State Police trooper, were seriously injured in a two-vehicle crash on Friday night near Saranac in Ionia County. It happened just before 10 p.m. Friday on Grand River Avenue west of Nash Highway in Boston Township. State police say the trooper, Caleb Starr of the Lakeview Post, was heading west on Grand River Avenue in his cruiser when he was hit head on by an eastbound vehicle driven by a 28-year-old woman from Utah. Authorities say the investigation shows Starr was driving at a steady speed that was below the 55 mph speed limit. Prior to the crash, he reduced the speed of the patrol car significantly. The trooper had to be extracted from the cruiser after the crash. He was airlifted to a hospital in Grand Rapids in critical condition, according to MSP. The other driver was taken to the hospital by ambulance in critical condition. As of Sunday, both Starr and the 28-year-old woman remain in critical condition at the hospital. MSP says both of them are stable. Authorities are withholding the woman's name, pending the investigation. The cause of the crash is still under investigation, authorities say.
