Rain is expected until later this afternoon, with temperatures staying in the upper 60s. Stay dry out there! It’s Monday in New York City, and we’ve just published a new investigation from reporter Jon Campbell. A 23-year-old died from an overdose at Brooklyn Mirage in 2021. Here's what else is happening: - A new study by Climate Central, a climate science nonprofit, showed that climate change [contributed to four weeks worth of sweltering weather in New York City]( between June and August. And that weather wasn’t a one-off event, there’s more of it in our future. - Thousands of protestors from around the globe [flocked to downtown Manhattan over the weekend]( for the city’s first climate march since 2019 to call on the Biden administration to move away from fossil fuels and oil pipeline projects. - New York Fashion Week wrapped up this weekend, and the stars of one Saturday night show in Harlem [were formley incarcerated models.]( - The co-founder of Rolling Stone magazine, Jann Wenner, [was removed from the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame’s board of directors]( over comments he made that Black and female musicians were not articulate. - The Bronx neighbors of a [day care where a 1-year-old boy died and three other children were hospitalized]( from opioid exposure on Friday say [their community has become overrun with fentanyl.]( - The price of parking meters in the city’s most congested areas [will start increasing next month]( with Manhattan drivers seeing higher costs first on October 16. - A [string of white lights in the sky above New Jersey]( on Saturday night were not UFOs, they were actually Elon Musk’s SpaceX Starlink satellites. - MTA ridership numbers [were at a seasonal high last week]( with more than 4 million commuters returning to the rails on separate days. This time of year is an important marker for MTA leadership officials tracking New Yorkers’ return to the subway. - Spotted lanternflies may [not be as harmful to hardwood trees as we previously thought,]( but that shouldn’t deter you from continuing to do your duty of stomping all of them out. - The CEO of DcoGo, the medical services provider who was just awarded a $432 million, no-bid contract with the city to house and care for migrants, [resigned on Friday after a report that he lied about having a degree from Clarkson University.]( - Twenty-seven Boston Markets in New Jersey have been closed for over a month after the Department of Labor issued stop-work orders over unpaid wages. [The owner has since paid out more $630,000 to hundreds of workers]( and the eateries will be allowed to operate again. - An e-bike rider traveling in the wrong direction up 2nd Avenue in Manhattan [hit a 59-year-old woman Friday night]( sending her to the hospital in critical condition. - “Echoes – A Voice from Unchartered Waters,” is the name of a [new art piece on display in the Garment District]( featuring a 55-foot-long whale with interactive sound and light. You can check it out until November 13. - The site of the original Scarr’s Pizza in the Lower East Side [is now an eight-seat sushi counter](. The inside still gives very retro vibes, but the details have been tweaked to be more fitting for a Japanese restaurant. Oh and getting a reservation is nearly impossible. “It just felt so sad to me. This young Latina, who's not rich — no one cares. Like, no one is doing anything about it.” - Cynthia Angel, [THE AUNT OF GENESIS REYNOSO, WHO OVERDOSED AT THE BROOKLYN MIRAGE IN 2021.]( More from Gothamist [second image]( [15 fun things to do in NYC this fall that won’t break the bank]( Events to get you fired up about NYC, humanity and more.
