It’s Tuesday morning in New York City and the state’s hold on issuing marijuana licenses could be [detrimental to the people who were given a leg up in the industry.]( An injunction was issued last month by a state Supreme Court judge against New York’s Conditional Adult Use Dispensary (CAURD) program which means hundreds of entrepreneurs statewide have had to put their plans to open a legal dispensary on hold. CAURD license holders have a lot at stake, and Gothamist spoke to half a dozen recipients about it. Some have borrowed money from family members, put down hefty deposits on real estate and inked expensive contracts while putting their personal finances and other businesses on the line. Here's what else is happening: - A Google Translate fluke mistakenly [converted every reference to the City Planning Commission’s initials, CPC, into Chinese Communist Party,]( leading readers to believe the mayor had teamed up with the Chinese government to build a better New York City. - A Brooklyn restaurant owner was charged with attempted murder after prosecutors say he got into an argument with two men sitting outside of a migrant shelter early Sunday and [then drove his car into them.]( - A gambling website is [apologizing for a Sept. 11-themed bet](. DraftKings pulled the bet for Monday games which featured the words "Never Forget" along with an offer to place bets on the Mets, Yankees, and Jets. - Speaking of the Jets, Aaron Rodgers’ debut with the team was short-lived as the [quarterback injured his left Achilles tendon]( during yesterday’s game as fans now await word on how long he’ll be out. - It may have been a stormy day yesterday on the 22nd anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, but the [rain made a picturesque double rainbow]( which appeared over the city. - Long Island officials believe “mishandled rice” at a local sushi restaurant may be to blame for 28 people [getting sick with suspected food poisoning]( over the weekend. - An MTA worker was fired for [buying stolen goods from people who identify as homeless]( while on the clock, according to a report by the MTA Inspector General who also witnessed the worker hold a knife to the throat of one of the sellers in a transaction gone sideways. - Both parents and childcare workers are struggling with the rising cost of childcare in the city. A recent study shows [more than half of the families in New York City spending more than they can afford on it.]( - A settlement was reached last week in a case brought against the NYPD by the New York Attorney General for their handling of 2020 protests, part of which would have changed the way NYC cops respond to protestors. But the [negotiations have been reopened in the case]( after the police officers’ union argued that the agreement may endanger officers. - Twinkies will soon be made by Smucker as the [company purchased Hostess]( in a $5.6 billion deal. - In other food news, McDonald’s is set to begin conducting virtual focus groups with some owners and operators [as a part of an ongoing civil rights audit over claims of discrimination]( from franchisees. - Luis Cruz was 18 when he was charged as an adult with first-degree manslaughter in a 2021 Bronx mass shooting that resulted in the death of 17-year-old Armanis Valdez. [Cruz pleaded guilty to the murder and will likely be deported]( after he serves a 13-year prison sentence, a judge ruled Monday. - Former Gov. Andrew Cuomo got a win this time. A state judge in Albany [ruled that New York’s new ethics board is unconstitutional]( after a drawn-out, two-year battle, which means the odds of Cuomo being able to keep a $5 million payout for his pandemic-era memoir have increased. - Forget regular Fashion Week shows, I want to see [more dogs and cats on the runway.]( “We have been told by other people to just stop. I’m like, ‘If we stop now, what are we supposed to do?
