[Donate Now]( [NYC establishes first minimum wage for food delivery workers]( [first image]( [by Emily Nadal]( ​​​​​​It’s Monday morning in New York City where [food delivery workers will finally earn a minimum wage.]( For the first time ever, tens of thousands of delivery workers are readying to make at least $17.96 per hour plus tips by July 12, and at least $19.96 an hour by 2025, under new regulations announced Sunday. Here’s what else is happening: - Roughly [73% of the 164,285 NYC tenants facing eviction are going to court without a lawyer]( and non-profit attorneys are being stretched thin. - An anti-abortion organization is [facing a lawsuit from the New York attorney general]( who wants to keep its members at least 30 feet from health care clinics after some of the group was arrested for blocking access to the facilities. - The implementation of a new [law which requires short-term rental hosts to register with the city]( has been twice delayed, and officials are concerned that staffing shortages will make enforcement even more difficult. - A couple is suing the city for allegedly wrongfully [tearing down their elaborate, $90,000 outdoor dining shed]( leaving them in a financial hole. - A bill that [would consider reparations for slavery]( has made it to Gov. Kathy Hochul’s desk after lawmakers tried for years to get it through. - The reparations bill [joins several others that were passed in this legislative session]( including the [Clean Slate Act]( which seals most criminal convictions, and the addition of [Diwali and Lunar New Year]( to public school calendars. - United Airlines will be [upgrading their inflight entertainment]( with 4K OLED TVs that have bluetooth connectivity, so no more searching for wired headphones when you fly. - Sen. Chuck Schumer wants the White House to [send more firefighters to help Canada fight the raging wildfires]( to prevent a “summer of smoke” in New York. - The 45th annual Museum Mile Festival kicks off on Tuesday.
