I just read Lucia Berlinâs short story "A Manual for Cleaning Women," which led me into the quotidian aspects of cleaning houses with humor and cleverness. I used to clean houses myself, but I don't think that makes me any more susceptible to its charms and the way Berlin carefully brought me to a really moving place by the end.
