We honor the emancipation of enslaved individuals and reflect on the progress we've made – and the work that still lies ahead. Juneteenth commemorates June 19th, 1865, when freedom was proclaimed for enslaved people in Texas two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation. Let us embrace Juneteenth as a time of remembrance, reflection, and rededication to the pursuit of freedom and equality for all. Together, we will continue to break barriers, overcome challenges, and build a brighter future for Louisiana. May this Juneteenth be filled with joy, unity, and a renewed commitment to the values that make our nation great.
