I want to take some time today to talk about Juneteenth and why we celebrate it. Hey {NAME}, I want to take some time today to talk about Juneteenth and why we celebrate it. We recognize and honor the significance of Juneteenth, a day that holds deep historical and cultural importance for the American people and the people of North Carolina. Juneteenth commemorates the emancipation of enslaved African Americans in the United States. As we reflect upon the historical significance of Juneteenth, we must also acknowledge that the work toward achieving full civil rights and racial equality is far from over. While progress has been made since the abolition of slavery, the legacy of systemic racism continues to persist. We’ve seen undeniable evidence of this in recent years, from racial disparities in our criminal justice system to unequal access to quality education and economic opportunities. In North Carolina, we have a rich history of resilience and progress in the face of adversity. From the Greensboro sit-ins during the civil rights movement to the ongoing efforts to ensure fair and equal voting rights, our state has played a vital role in shaping the fight for civil rights. Juneteenth serves as a reminder that the struggle for justice and equality is ongoing, and our responsibility is to continue pushing for meaningful change. I’m committed to championing policies that address systemic inequalities and promote social justice. We must invest in education, job training, and economic development programs that provide equal opportunities for all North Carolinians. Additionally, we must work to strengthen and protect voting rights and reform our criminal justice system, ensuring fairness and eliminating racial biases. I encourage you to join me in commemorating Juneteenth and reflecting on its significance. Let’s use this occasion to recommit to advancing civil rights, fostering inclusivity, and creating a more just and equitable America.
