We’ve made so much progress over the years to ensure that members of the LGBTQ+ community have the same rights and opportunities as everyone else in this country. However, we must recognize that hate and discrimination still exist. Just last year, Republican legislatures across the country passed a record number of anti-LGBTQ laws, including bans on books and classroom curriculum. Right-wing extremists will continue to pass outlandish legislation unless we take action to stop them. That’s why I’m a proud cosponsor of the Equality Act, which would ban discrimination based on sexual orientation.
