Sharing stories of hope. [View in browser]( [World Food Program USA.]( [DONATE]( [Maria, a Moldovan woman, holding a cake she made. ]( Maria baked a traditional Moldovan 'Pasca' cake to share with the Ukrainian refugee families who stay at her home. In the 1990's, Maria and her three daughters fled their home in Moldova and crossed the border into Ukraine. War in Moldova had left Maria's family with no food. Now, decades later and settled back in Moldova, Maria helps Ukrainian refugees – welcoming them with food and the shelter of her home. Maria and her husband live in a small Moldovan town only nine miles from the Ukrainian border. Most Ukrainian refugees entering Moldova pass through Maria's town. When the war in Ukraine began, Maria quickly opened up her house to refugees. She has lost count of how many people she has hosted since the beginning of the crisis, but she says it must be over 100. Maria receives cash assistance from the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) to help purchase food and other essentials as she hosts refugees. The families that pass through Maria's home are a small portion of the millions of people across the globe who are seeking food, shelter and safety within or outside their country's borders. Next Tuesday is World Refugee Day, a day to honor the strength and courage of people who have had to leave their homes, often leaving everything they know behind and taking only what they can carry. [{NAME}, can you help the U.N. World Food Programme reach more refugee families with lifesaving aid by making a gift before World Refugee Day next week? We've set a goal to rally 500 generous supporters to make a lasting impact on the lives of people experiencing severe hunger, including refugees.]( Right now, over 100 million people are displaced from their homes. Conflict, economic shocks and extreme weather events are forcing families from their homes – and pushing more people into acute levels of hunger. Our work is only possible because of our network of supporters. [Please help us reach our goal of 500 gifts to deliver lifesaving food to children and families most in need.]( Your gift could be the difference between a child going to bed hungry or eating a nutritious meal.
