{NAME}, with Earth Day being this past Saturday, what a timely way to end our series on the drivers

[World Food Program USA.]( {NAME}, with Earth Day being this past Saturday, what a timely way to end our series on the drivers of the global food crisis with climate. The climate crisis is a leading cause of the steep rise in global hunger as it destroys lives, crops and livelihoods. Over 40% of the global population lives in areas that are highly vulnerable to climate extremes. From the Central American Dry Corridor to South Sudan to Afghanistan, climate extremes are driving millions of people across the world to the brink of starvation. In the immediate aftermath of climate-related disasters, the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) saves lives by providing food to people in the most remote locations. At the same time, we help communities: [Image of man in Nepal going through flooded waterways with text in bold, Anticipate: Through early warning systems, we anticipate climate hazards before they turn into disasters. In Nepal, we reached 80,000 people with cash vouchers ahead of a flash flood that happened outside of monsoon season. This cash assistance ensured that people in harm’s way had the necessary resources to protect their lives and livelihoods. ]( [Image of a woman in Malawi and a woman in South Sudan with text next to images that read: Protect We protect communities from climate-related financial losses. In Malawi, after a series of harvest failures, our crop insurance program supplied 65,000 farmers with cash payouts so they could still feed their families. Energize We help communities access sustainable energy solutions. In South Sudan, WFP is piloting a project to turn the world's worst water weed, water hyacinth, into cooking fuel. This weed blocks waterways, which causes flooding and emits methane when it decomposes. By turning water hyacinth into safe, clean cooking fuel, the project aims to improve local ecosystems and help people earn an income. ]( The bottom line is: The climate crisis is no longer a glimpse into the future but a daily reality for communities around the globe.
