[World Food Program USA.]( You are receiving this email again with the corrected subject line. Dear {NAME}, It is with tremendous sadness that I report that the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) lost three staff members due to violence in parts of Sudan on Saturday. While we review the evolving security situation, we are forced to temporarily halt all operations in Sudan. Threats to our teams make it impossible to operate safely and effectively in the country. You can read the statement by Executive Director Cindy McCain in [full here](. [A map of East Africa with Sudan and South Sudan bolded.] We are grateful for the deep commitment of humanitarian aid workers around the world who dedicate their lives to serving others. Humanitarian staff members work to save lives on the frontlines of the world's worst crises. We honor their commitment, and we are thinking of the families who have lost loved ones in Sudan. With a heavy heart, [Barron Segar.] Barron Segar CEO and President World Food Program USA As you may know, until 2011, South Sudan and Sudan were one country. Following decades of civil war, the southern region became an independent country, and one of the world's newest nations: South Sudan. WFP continues to deliver food assistance and long-lasting solutions to hunger in South Sudan. Our Future Begins With Food. With the support of people like you, we can do good better.
