[Wegmans ]( [Start Shopping]( [discover a passion for food]( Sunday, December 4, 2022 [ ]( Chicken Cacciatore Slow-Cooked Comfort [ ] By Nicole Wegman It’s December, which means it’s officially the holiday season. Our Meals & Recipes team is here to help you put a hearty, comforting meal on the table, no matter how busy your days get. This week, we're turning to a slow-cooked classic: Chicken Cacciatore, two ways. As our weeknights get filled with festivities, I find myself looking for shortcuts to serve my family a balanced meal they’ll love, and I’m sure many of you are, too. This desire for simplicity is what inspired me to work with our chef team to develop our line of cook-in-bag entrees—an easy way for people to enjoy some of our most popular recipes when prep time is tight. One of the recipes we knew we had to recreate was our Slow-Cooked Chicken Cacciatore, which has been one of the highest-rated recipes on our website for years. [Cook-in-Bag Chicken Cacciatore]( What’s so great about our [Cook-in-Bag Chicken Cacciatore]( is that our chefs do all the prep work. You simply peel off the labels, then place in your oven for 60 minutes or your slow-cooker for six hours. The result is tender chicken and perfectly stewed peppers, onions, and mushrooms in a rich tomato sauce ready to serve with your favorite pasta, rice or bread. Of course, you can also make our [Slow-Cooked Chicken Cacciatore recipe]( from scratch and it’s just as delicious. It starts with a whole chicken that’s cut into pieces, minced garlic, baby bella mushrooms, and sliced peppers and onions. You build those classic flavors by adding dry red wine, marinara sauce, and our Garlic Herb Seasoning Shak'r, and cooking low and slow for six hours. My favorite way to serve this is over Amore Girelle Pasta and with a side of steamed broccoli or a salad for an easy way to enjoy more greens. So, if you’re craving a little comfort this week, Chicken Cacciatore is a delicious go-to—no matter how you slow-cook it.
