Don’t be boring like this guy A lot of webinars are super lame or boring, but this email will prevent that from happening to you. ‘Cuz you’re about to learn how to create a cult-like surge of excitement over your webinar, like it’s a Game of Thrones Watch party. But first, let me kick things off with a quick story… About 11 years ago, I was fat, sick, and nearly dead after breaking 3 powerlifting world records. I developed sleep apnea, so when I snored, it was as loud + STARTLING as thunder. One day, I attended a Toastmasters meetup to brush up on my public speaking, and a suuuper shy, timid Accountant was giving a speech there. Long story short, I snored SO LOUD in the middle of his presentation, that everybody in the room actually ducked for cover. It was humiliating. But his speech was filled with so much data and statistics that I couldn’t NOT fall asleep. To this day, I’m SO ANGRY that I fell asleep during his presentation. ‘Cuz a few years later, I read a classic story called “The Richest Man in Babylon,” and learned about the power of investing. That story changed my relationship with money forever. …But it also made me remember that the Accountant at Toastmasters shared the EXACT same information 11 years ago when I fell asleep! If I had JUST LISTENED to him back then, I would have started investing (which would have increased my net worth significantly without doing any extra work, thanks to compound interest)… So why did the same information put me to sleep one day, yet completely change my life a different day? The answer is STORY. Here’s the truth: Facts tell and stories sell. That’s because stories show us how others have grappled with great challenges and emerged transformed. And this gives us hope that WE can transform, too. In this email, I’ll teach you how to use the power of storytelling to create your most wildly successful webinar to date. This is so important to implement because stories are the most powerful tools you’ve got in your business today. So avoid the temptation to deliver information on your webinar. It’ll only overwhelm your prospects. Share stories instead. I’ll tell you how to successfully share stories using a 3-part framework below. After you learn these 3 parts, you can plug YOUR stories into the formula and create webinar content that triggers a crazy demand for your offer. Here’s the 3 parts to every story… - The Beginning / The Departure - The Middle / The Initiation - The End / The Return Let’s break them down… — 1- The beginning: Every great story begins with a problem. Watch any movie – especially Marvel or DC movies – and it’ll begin with a problem that needs to be solved. The beginning of the story is the moment in time when you realize that the life you’re living isn’t the life you want moving forward. This is known as a call to adventure. Sometimes, you’ll meet a mentor or see someone with the life you want at this point in the story… And when that happens, you’ll realize that it’s possible for YOU to have the life you want because others have it… That’s the moment when you cross a threshold. You’ve got fears and doubts, but you forge forward into the unknown anyway. 2- The middle: The middle of a story is full of trials and failures…and growth and new skills. If often bounces between the trials, failures, and growth…until you reach a moment of death and rebirth. This is when you understand that the OLD you has to be completely destroyed for the NEW you to emerge. You usually have a revelation when this happens, meaning you finally understand what you need to do. It might be some sort of formula or secret sauce… Whatever it is, it helps you apply everything you’ve learned into final changes that break you FREE from the struggle at last! 3- The end: In the end, you get the gift. This means that you truly understand what it takes to emerge victorious over the battle you once faced… You understand why other people fail to succeed because you went through it firsthand. Life looks different for the best now… You got what you wanted, and gained a major sense of accomplishment along the way. You emerge changed. You’ve now got the gift that others want. — Now that you know the 3 parts to storytelling, come up with some stories of your own. To do that, take out a sheet of paper and write down your ONE big idea (the marketing hook that you identified yesterday). From there, write down the 3-5 biggest objections that your audience has towards achieving your ONE big idea. Why might they NOT think it’s possible? For example, if you teach people how to write and publish a best-selling book, they might have these 5 objections: - It takes too long to write a book. - It might be complicated and derail other business goals. - It’s expensive to publish. - You need to be well-known to sell a book. - It might fail and be embarrassing. When you’ve got your top 3-5 objections, come up with a story that debunks each of them. The story can be your own, your clients’, or a story you find through research. The outcome of debunking these objections is to dismantle your prospects’ belief that they CAN’T achieve their goal, and help instill the belief that it’s totally possible. …And that’ll segway directly into your product offer! Tomorrow, I’ll share how to tie all of this together with a 5-step framework to outline your entire webinar in just 15 minutes. If you miss this, you might bash your head against the wall trying to come up with webinar content. So stay safe, and read that email. -AJ Roberts P.S. If you struggle to come up with unique stories, just think back to a time when you struggled to achieve the outcome of your irresistible offer. …And BOOM! You’ve got a story right there. The Flesch readability score uses the average length of your sentences (measured by the number of words) and the average number of syllables per word in an equation to calculate the reading ease. Text with a very high Flesch reading ease score (about 100) is straightforward and easy to read, with short sentences and no words of more than two syllables.
