Wondering what it's about? Here are some quick facts about the update: > It will take about two weeks to fully roll out according to Google > Currently it only impacts Google Search and not other Google surfaces like Google Discover, but could in the future. > The update no longer just applies to English-language content, but is now for all languages. It is globally rolling out now. > Impact will be felt more for online-educational materials, entertainment, shopping and tech-related content. > Google updates the scores constantly, but if penalized there is a long recovery and validation period. This Week in the [Local SEO Community](... This Week On The SEO Mad Scientist Hidden Content Indexes, But Does it Rank? Welcome to another week of updates, SEO scientists! As you know, we've been playing around with some cannibalized listings, and prior to that, a lot of on-site signals that helped with Google business profile rankings… But today, we're going to take a step back to one of our earlier indexation tests using hidden content. If you've been following us for a while, then you've known from our previous test that Google will index all types of hidden content on your web page. However, until now, we haven't really tested the true "rankability" of this content… So this time, we've created a keyword-targeted page on our website… Below is what the website looks like from the front end: We submitted the web page to Google for indexing and had it crawled by Googlebot to get an idea of what it looks like to Google. As you can see from the screenshot, Google clearly sees the front end of the website the way we do… But when we look at the HTML code Google has crawled, you can see we have quite a bit of hidden content… We can see here that from the very beginning, the page was not indexed… But once it was indexed, we immediately started to see rankings… Of course, this is just upon indexing, so it'll be interesting to see how well the page ranks over time, but of course, we want to take it a step further… To test the true threshold of hidden content indexation, we will hide all the content on our website that is currently influencing any rankings (the entire site)... This will give us a good idea of how hidden content performs differently than physical content. It will be interesting to see how it affects the local Google business profile rankings. Join us next week for another indexation update, and stay tuned for our final cannibalization results once they're in… Until next time, happy testing!
