That’s not democracy. That’s Oligarchy. And that’s why we must overturn the disastrous Supreme Court decision on Citizens United and move toward public funding of elections. But, in the meantime, living within this corrupt campaign finance system, we have to fight back and support progressive candidates under attack from right-wing billionaires. And the elections of 2024 are shaping up to be the most dangerous yet — with progressives, especially women and people of color, most often the target. That’s a big problem, because a government run by Donald Trump and the GOP would be an absolute disaster for working people. If the GOP takes power, they’ll try to ban abortion nationwide. They’ll take health care away from tens of millions of people. They’ll roll back all the progress we’ve made fighting climate change. Other issues like education, gun control, criminal justice reform, income and wealth inequality, the cost of prescription drugs, workers rights under the National Labor Relations Board, LGBTQ rights, and more will all move backward. Obviously, we cannot allow this to happen. We must ensure that progressives running for Congress have the support and resources they need to stand up to the onslaught of Dark Money coming after them.
