Also: BSO members speak out about COVID outbreak; Sara Mae Berman, in her own words [Donate ❤️]( [View in Browser](  April 18, 2022 🏃 Cloudy with a high near 53 and rain expected late at night. Good Morning Boston, It's Marathon Monday! For the first time since 2019, thousands of runners and spectators are flocking to the historic race's 26.2-mile course on its traditional springtime Patriots' Day date. And, at least for the runners, it's virtually perfect weather for it. Let's get to it: - If you have the day off or are sneaking a peek at the action during work, we'll be covering all the marathon updates on [wbur.org](. The race will also be [streamed on CBS Boston's website]( and air on TV locally on WBZ and USA Network. - The wheelchair divisions kick things off shortly after 9 a.m., with the elite men and women runners taking off from Hopkinton at 9:37 a.m. and 9:45 a.m., respectively. You can read the [full list of start times here](. - If you're headed to the race in person, remember it's probably best take the MBTA. [Parking restrictions and street closures]( — not to mention the crowds — around the marathon course's final stretch in Boston will make driving a bit messy. The MBTA is also offering a $15 today-only "[Marathon Pass]( for unlimited commuter rail trips through all zones. - You can also expect a [heavy police presence]( around Boston, as well as bag checks in order to get near the finish line. As always, officials are asking spectators to report anything that looks suspicious to a nearby officer or call 911. - In case you get hungry watching the runners: here are [a few guides]( for where to [eat]( and [drink]( along the marathon route. - Scroll below for WBUR's full guide to the return of the marathon. - The marathon is already off to an unexpected start: the BAA announced this morning that defending men's wheelchair champion and five-time winner Marcel Hug has withdrawn from the race. It's not yet clear why. In other local news: - Logan airport's Terminal A is back open after a false alarm briefly resulted in the terminal getting evacuated yesterday afternoon. Officials reported that what was initially considered a suspicious item was actually a PlayStation in "[a degraded condition]( - Sixteen families in Lawrence are looking for new homes after [a massive, wind-fueled fire]( broke out Friday night in Lawrence. - Firefighters are still trying to figure out what caused the blaze, which spread from one home to nearby residences in the dense neighborhood. Fortunately, no people or pets were reported missing or injured. - PSA: As a state holiday, knowing what's opened and closed on Patriots' Day can always be a little tricky. So here's a recap: - Open: Federal offices, like the post office, as well as most stores and banks (though they may have special hours). - Closed: State offices, like the RMV. Municipal offices, too. That means trash pickup likely will be delayed a day this week. It's also school vacation week. - One last reminder: Tomorrow is the deadline to file your taxes in Massachusetts. We get an extra day this year thanks to Patriots' Day — but that's not the only difference. NPR's Life Kit explains [why you may see some changes on your refund]( due to stimulus checks and new deduction rules. - If you haven't gotten to it yet, remember that [filing an extension]( may be better than rushing a return. P.S. — The Celtics beat the Brooklyn Nets — and survived a barrage of Kyrie Irving three-pointers — on a spinning, buzzer-beating Jayson Tatum layup Sunday in a wild Game 1 of their first-round playoff series. If you missed it, [rewatch the final 90 seconds of the game here](. We'll take another six of those, please.
