Also: A big weekend for Boston sports; Logan already busy ahead of school vacation week [Donate ❤️]( [View in Browser](  April 15, 2022 ☀️ Sunny with a high near 69 Good Morning Boston, TGIF! It's looks like it will be a beautiful spring Friday. But first, let's all rally together this morning and help Boston beat Portland in [this (yes, kinda nerdy) battle for American's top bus stop](. We can win this! Now onto the news: - After a full 12 hours of debate, the Massachusetts Senate passed a sweeping climate change bill aimed at ensuring the state meets its goal of net-zero emissions by 2050. The vote broke down along party lines in the Democrat-controlled chamber, 37-3 - Didn't Massachusetts just [pass a new climate law]( Well, yes. WBUR's Miriam Wasser has [a great breakdown of the new bill]( and how it builds on the 2021 law, from its increased rebates for electric vehicle purchases, to new EV requirements for the MBTA, to changes to the state's offshore wind laws. - What's next? The House passed a [more narrowly focused offshore wind bill last month]( designed to incentivize more projects and overhaul the state's selection process. The Senate's bill includes similar offshore wind provisions, but there's still going to be a lot of negotiating over the rest of the Senate's proposals before anything becomes law. - Ahead of April vacation week for Massachusetts public schools, WBUR's Josie Guarino reports that airport traffic is already above its pre-pandemic levels and parking is in high demand, according to officials. "[Revenge travel]( season must already be here. - Travelers are encouraged to download the [Fly Logan app]( to reserve parking or bus tickets ahead of time and to stay updated on their flight, especially amid the recent spate of cancellations due airline staffing shortages. - We'll soon know if the new "right to repair" law in Massachusetts will actually kick in. Today is the deadline for a judicial ruling on the lawsuit by carmakers to delay the law from taking effect. - The new law — which voters overwhelmingly approved in the 2020 election — requires [carmakers to create an app through which drivers could access certain data]( about their car (which is currently only shared with dealerships) and allow them to share it with independent repair shops. However, carmakers argue they need more time to comply and some brands, like Subaru, [have already stripped certain wireless technology from cars sold at Massachusetts dealerships]( as a result. - Gina McCarthy is planning to step down from role as White House climate advisor, according to [Reuters]( and the [Washington Post](. (But we'll always have [this moment]( from the Boston native.) - The Red Sox take the field at Fenway Park for the first time this year at 2:10 p.m. today, and if you plan on catching a game there anytime soon, you'll likely notice some changes — both big and conspicuously flutternutter-flavored. Here's a sneak peek: - First, it'll probably be best to bring your credit card. Fenway is going "cashless" this season, meaning concession stands and stores will only accept credit cards or smartphone payments. Those who only have cash with have to load their money onto Mastercard debit cards at one of three kiosks in the stadium. (State law actually prohibits discrimination against cash buyers, and Attorney General Maura Healey's office tells me they'll be checking in with the Sox to make sure the process is "fair and accessible.") - Let's also not forget about that [whole new section behind the right field bleachers](. PSA: The Sox say the newly named concourse, Truly Terrace, will feature the most diverse menu of drinks in the park, as well as an AI-powered visual recognition self-checkout system. - Last but not least: new food! The Red Sox are debuting a number of new ballpark snacks, from mozzarella sticks and buffalo chicken spring rolls, to something called, um, "[Fluffer Nutter Fries]( With cilantro? I'm not so sure about this one. P.S.— Wild turkeys in Mass. can become "hyper-aggressive" during this time of year. Do you know why?
