Also: Level up your leftovers and then walk them off on this mural tour [Donate ❤️]( [View in Browser](  November 24, 2021 ⛅ Friday is mostly cloudy, with a high near 46. The rest of the weekend will be sunny, with highs in the low 40s. Good Morning Boston, What does every good relaxing holiday weekend or long trip returning home need? A good book or podcast. - First, let's start with book recommendations. Book curation is one of NPR's specialties, and it's [extensive database]( – with mix and match filters for year and genre – lets you explore more than 2,800 picks from NPR staff and trusted critics. This is a bookmarked resource for me that I look at regularly (especially now that it's time to get serious about gift-giving). - If you're starting to feel the pandemic winter blues again, Cognoscenti editor Cloe Axelson recommends picking up [Joan Didion](. Why? "Her essays go zing – straight to the heart – no throat-clearing, no platitudes," Axelson writes. "We need more of that." - Now, let's talk about podcasts for those of you looking for some ear candy. I'd be remiss not to mention WBUR's podcasts, including the latest season of Endless Thread. It's all about [memes]( how they've changed the lives of those pictured on them, politics, and the way we interact online and in real life. - If you didn't yet listen to WBUR's [Anything For Selena]( podcast, it's [highly acclaimed]( and one of my favorite podcasts of 2021. - NPR's Sam Sanders also likes listening to podcasts and audio books on long drives, and asked his Twitter followers to share some "not too depressing" recommendations. The result is a [Twitter thread]( worth saving! P.S.– The holiday season is still upon us, which means more book, audiobook and podcast recommendations will be needed to get us through all our traveling, cooking, shopping, cleaning and more. So, please tell me what you're reading or listening to right now by replying to this email. If we get enough responses, I'll share a master list of all our reader recommendations. Think of it as a public service to your fellow newsletter readers!
