Here's a [quick reminder]( Both days honor the U.S. military community. But they serve different purposes and are rooted in two different wars. - Veterans Day honors all who have served in the U.S. military, and is observed on the day World War I ended in 1918 (AKA Armistice Day). - Memorial Day specifically honors those who have died serving their country, and has its roots in the Civil War. - There are many local events happening across Massachusetts today in honor of Veterans Day. That includes parades in Quincy, Worcester and Brockton. Congressman Seth Moulton said he'll again host his annual veteran's town hall [virtually]( at 7 p.m. In other local news: - Visitation has been suspended at the Middleton House of Correction amid a[COVID-19 outbreak](. The jail, which hadn't recorded an outbreak since February, reportedly has 57 active cases among those in custody and eight cases among staff, according to the Essex County Sheriff's Department. - Kids ages 5 to 11 are starting to get their shots! More than 15,000 children across the state received their COVID-19 vaccinations in the first few days, [according to The Boston Globe](.
