Also: Dr. Fauci's winter pandemic predictions; meet the first openly nonbinary person elected in Mass. [Donate ❤️]( [View in Browser]( Â November 8, 2021Â 🌞 Sunny, with a high near 64. Good Morning Boston, If you want to smile, [these heartwarming photos]( of loved ones reuniting as the U.S. reopens to international travel really did the trick for me. But first, be sure to read what's happening in our own backyard today: - The Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court will hear a lawsuit today that aims to stop Boston from removing tents in the area around Massachusetts Avenue and Melnea Cass Boulevard. The city says the tents are a public health crisis, and that it's connecting people to shelters and treatment centers. The ACLU disagrees and says the city is displacing people without offering them adequate alternative housing. - Mass Save has announced a plan to better align with the state's new law requiring that greenhouse gas emissions in 2030 be at least 50% lower than 1990 emissions, with net-zero carbon emissions by 2050. It's a three-year plan, with the greatest focus on driving emissions reductions, but[some senators aren't impressed](. - A new clinic for veterans is [now open]( in Worcester. The 48,000-square-foot community-based outpatient clinic is on the campus of the UMass Chan Medical School, and features 65 exam, consultation and procedure rooms. There's also a pharmacy and specialty care options like radiology, physical therapy and caregiver support. - By the numbers: More people in Massachusetts are getting their booster shots. State health data show more than 631,000 people have gotten their third jab, and more than 4.7 million residents are fully vaccinated. It seems to be helping the infection rates. The state is averaging about 1,200 new daily infections, which is down about 10% from a month ago. - PSA: Boston's 28 bus, which runs between Roxbury and Mattapan, will be free through the end of the year. The pilot program was set to end after three months, but there's enough federal relief money left to extend it an extra month. - Endangered North Atlantic right whales have been spotted off the coast of Maine! This is exciting because there are less than 350 left in the world. Ships are being asked to avoid the area or move slowly through at least the end of next week. P.S.â It's getting dark much earlier now, so our multi-platform editor (and friend of the newsletter) is posing an important question: "What are you doing to push away the blahs and the sads?"
