The Bootleg fire out in Oregon is now the largest in the U.S., covering nearly half the size of Rhode Island. Last night, all southbound lanes and two northbound lanes were closed to work on repairing the bridge, so it's an improvement from that. It may take months to fix the extensive damage caused by a truck hitting the Roosevelt Circle overpass. - A 17-year-old boy drowned in Groton yesterday after jumping into the Squannacook River from a rope swing. More than 20 people have drowned since May. In one of those cases, [charges have been issued]( against a retired state police trooper and his wife after a teenager drowned at their home last month.
