Good Morning Boston,
âï¸ Cloudy, high of 78. Slight chance of showers between 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
A new SCOTUS nominee. President Trump's taxes. The Suffolk DA's list of officers with credibility issues. Apparently, there's no such thing as a quiet weekend in 2020. Here's what you need to know to get caught up:
- Over the weekend, President Trump [named Amy Coney Barrett]( his new Supreme Court nominee. But her historical anti-abortion stances have local advocates [calling]( on lawmakers to lift restrictions and protect abortion rights here in Massachusetts. Republicans, who are outnumbered by Democrats on Beacon Hill, are fighting the bill.
- Important to note: The Senate Judiciary Committee will [begin confirmation hearings]( for Coney Barrett on Oct. 12.
- Want some reading material on Coney Barret? Here is more information on [who she is]( what the [right and left think]( about her, and what the nomination [could mean for the 2020 election](.
And in local news:
- Starting today, you can sit with up to 10 total people for both indoor and outdoor dining at restaurants (though some cities, like Boston and Worcester, are opting to stick to the six-person limit). Gov. Charlie Baker also expanded where people can sit at restaurants to include the bar. You'll just need to order food and be seated at a safe distance from others.
- Twenty students in Auburn Public Schools are being [asked to quarantine]( the district found that they were potentially exposed to a bus monitor who tested positive.
- College watch: Merrimack College is temporarily moving classes online this week after 12 more students tested positive for the coronavirus. It comes after the school put an entire dorm into a two-week quarantine because of an outbreak in the building. And at UMass Amherst, 13 students have tested positive and are now in quarantine. They all live off campus.
- A little bit of hopeful news: Researchers have reported [promising results]( from an early clinical trial of a potential coronavirus vaccine developed by a team from Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and Johnson & Johnson. It brings what could be the first successful single-shot vaccine for the virus into the third and final phase of clinical trials.
P.S.– "Back To The Future" fans, this one is for you. Paradox-free time travel is theoretically possible, according to [new research](. Get ready to fall down the rabbit hole with this story.
