August 25, 2020
Good Morning Boston,
☀➡⛈ Mostly sunny, and then a chance of thunderstorms after 2 p.m. High near 90.
We've got a week to go in the contentious Democratic primary for Senate, in which Sen. Ed Markey is defending his seat from challenger U.S. Rep. Joseph Kennedy III. And yesterday representatives from both campaigns went hard against each other publicly. Let's take a look:
- Kennedy campaign manager Nick Clemons emailed Markey campaign manager John Walsh to request Markey instruct "his followers to immediately end the attacks on Joe's supporters [and] the threats to Joe and his family's life." [The Boston Globe reports]( the letter included examples of the harassing posts, including those joking about the murders of Kennedy's grandfather Robert F. Kennedy and President John F. Kennedy.
- Some reporters were copied on the email, including POLITICO's Stephanie Murray, who [shared screenshots]( on Twitter.
- Walsh fired back, writing [openly to Clemons on Twitter]( that he was "disappointed that as someone I have known for years you are choosing to end this campaign with crocodile tears." Walsh [added]( that Markey has "condemned all vile and hateful speech surrounding this race - and you know it."
- Kennedy tweeted a note to his supporters last night, encouraging them to keep their heads clear and ["go win this thing."]( Markey, meanwhile, [hit the campaign trail]( in Revere.
I'd be remiss to not include our [guide to voting this year]( in the primary, which is a little different than it's been in the past. If you want to vote by mail, your local election office needs to have your ballot application in tomorrow -- and yes, you can drop it off in person. You can also vote early in person until Aug. 28, or vote in person on the day of the election, Sept. 1.
P.S.– As a child of the '80s, I can't help but admit I am very excited for the third Bill and Ted movie, ["Bill & Ted Face the Music."]( And if you're not ready to go to a movie theater just yet, it will be available on streaming sites. Whoa!
