Also: the perks and challenges of online adult education; two pandemic playlists per your song suggestions ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  [Donate [WBUR]]( [View in Browser](  [WBUR]( August 11, 2020 Good Morning Boston, 🥵 A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1pm. [Mostly sunny]( with a high near 94. A heat advisory is still in affect. We have plenty of news to go with your coffee this morning. First, let's start with a newly filed wrongful death suit against five Boston police officers, a state trooper and the city of Boston. - In February, Juston Root was shot more than 30 times [during a chaotic scene]( started outside of Brigham and Women's Hospital and ended, after a chase, in Chestnut Hill. The Norfolk DA ruled that the police's use of force was justified because Root appeared to pull a gun on officers. It was later identified as a BB gun. Root's family says the 41-year-old struggled with mental health issues and that there were alternatives to the lethal force used. As for the local coronavirus news you should know today: - Reminder: The state limit on outdoor gathering sizes changes today. Now the cap is 50 people (and you should still be distancing and wearing a mask when you can't). Even though Massachusetts is still doing better with case numbers than most of the U.S., the change comes as our seven-day rolling average for positive cases keeps gradually increasing. Last month, the low was a 1.6% positive rate, and earlier this month we saw it hit over 2%. - Everett is now implementing a [mandatory mask order](. This is for both indoor and outdoor public spaces (yes, that means the casino). - Switching the play: Holy Cross and UMass Lowell are walking back their plans for the fall, going mostly remote. - Let's talk about President Trump's executive orders in regards to evictions. One notable thing is that the order neither bans evictions outright nor provides rental assistance — actions that need to be approved by Congress — so most housing activists say it will do little to stop the tidal wave of evictions that's coming. This could mean a "homeless pandemic," seeing as [30 million people are at risk for eviction]( across the U.S. (Are you still confused about Trump's orders and what is could mean for Massachusetts? [This Radio Boston segment]( is worth the 20-minute listen.) - The Mayflower II is [officially home]( in Plymouth Harbor and is expected to be open to the public tomorrow. It's right in time to celebrate the coming 400th anniversary of the Pilgrim’s arrival in Plymouth. P.S.– We asked you to share the music that's getting you through the pandemic and, man, did you all deliver! So much so that we actually have [TWO playlists for you](. We brought it back to the mixtape days and organized the suggestions for your mood: one for the quieter days and one for the louder days.
