The WBUR Weekender
May 23, 2020
ð Weekend Weather: Saturday is mostly cloudy. Sunday and Monday there's [nothing but sunshine]( with highs in the low to mid 60s.
G0od morning,
It's Memorial Day weekend, which on a normal year would have people flocking outdoors to soak up the sun and welcome summer. This year the desire to be outside seems even greater after months of social distancing – at least it is for me! The good news is that beaches opened (with major restrictions) this week. If you're thinking of heading to the shore, plan accordingly and remember these safety measures:
- If you’re at the beach, keep at least six feet away from people as you move around. And when it comes to setting up your towels, chairs or blankets, the state says you need to be 12 feet away from other beachgoers.
- You still cannot gather in groups of 10 or more people – and that includes beach gatherings.
- Leave your ball or frisbee at home. All organized games are prohibited on the beach.
- Add these two items to your beach bag packing list: a mask or covering and hand sanitizer. The mask is for the times you can’t keep your distance (but are not required while swimming), and the sanitizer is to use in case soap and water are not available.
- Bring plenty of water because water fountains and water refill stations will remain closed during phase one of the state’s reopening plan. Also closed? Bathhouses and restrooms. Some beaches will have port-a-potties available, but overall you'll probably want to keep the length of your visit on the shorter side.
