------=_Part_31782787_84831263.1678547160289 Content-Type: text/html;charset=UTF-8 Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable Special time-limited offer inside [Waves Audio]( Hey {NAME}, I’m not sure I should say this out loud, but you don’t really need 150 different plugins to mix a song. Actually, you don’t even need 15 different plugins. Sure, it’s nice to have options, but a great engineer can mix a masterpiece with just one channel strip (while other guys couldn’t mix their way out of a salad with all the plugins in the world). The truth is, like a great boxer, all you really need to win the fight is a killer 1-2 punch – a quick combo you can rely on for the knockout – or in our case, a 1-2 plugin punch. My 1-2 Plugin Combo Sometimes I want to mess around and try out lots of different plugins to see what I like best. We all get in those curious moods where we feel like exploring without any specific map of where we’re going. But sometimes you don’t have time for that, so you’ll find yourself coming back to certain plugin combinations the most since they sound good on everything and you don’t need to work as hard. My go-to plugin combo is my go-to exactly for that reason – I use it as both my first option and my last option when nothing else seems to work. And it never fails me. The first plugin – the jab that sets up the knockout punch – is the [Scheps Omni Channel](. [Scheps Omni Channel]( I call this plugin the swiss-army knife of channel strips – it does everything – and with more than one flavor. You’ve got 5 standard processors found on channel strips like the [SSL](, but with 3 main differences: 1. You can move them around in any order you want, giving you dozens of combinations to create your own sound using all 5 different processors. 2. There’s an extra slot to insert any other Waves plugin you want into the sound. For example, you can get a great commercial vocal sound by [double-stacking compressors]( using the Scheps Omni Channel as your “fast compressor,” and then inserting something like the [CLA-2A]( in the extra slot to fill out the chain. 3. It models the specific combinations of vintage and modern processing used by famed mixing engineer Andrew Scheps (Jay-Z, Adele, Metallica). The ability to mix and match between 3 different styles of compression and analog saturation opens you up to infinite possibilities when combined with all the different ways you can order the 5 slots – actually 6 with the extra one. Even though I use this all the time, I’d be lying if I said I was an expert at using it – with this one I go straight for the presets and head out from there. There’s a huge selection by both Andrew Scheps (that’s where I always start) plus a bunch of other famous mixers like Jacquire King, Dave Darlington and Yoad Nevo. (In general, those 3 guys tend to have very good and useable presets on any given plugin.) The Knockout Punch If the Scheps Omni Channel acts as the “jab” in my 1-2 combo, then this next plugin is my “knockout punch.” It was also created in collaboration with Andrew Scheps, and guess what? They work AMAZING together – because that’s how he designed them to. [Scheps Parallel Particles]( takes everything you accomplished with your swiss-army knife channel strip and makes it bigger, badder and better all around. [Scheps Parallel Particles]( Parallel Particles looks crazy at first but it’s just the graphics – it’s very easy to use. There are only 4 controls for the 4 main regions on the frequency spectrum. Each control either adds or cuts each part of the sound, but it’s not using EQ – it’s applying parallel compression. You simply insert it right after the Omni Channel and adjust to taste. One of the things Andrew Scheps is known for is that he’s a huge proponent of parallel processing, and this plugin puts decades of perfecting his professional mix techniques into your hands. While the controls are extremely simple and the plugin takes only a few seconds to dial up in your mix, there is a ton going on under the hood. The “thick” and “bite” controls add very different flavors of aggression to your tone by compressing and blending the signal with your unaffected tone as you twist the dial – so that you’re adding new body, punch, and aggression while maintaining some of the original, natural dynamics of your sound. The “sub” control is pretty powerful – it enhances the low end of your signal in parallel – and if you crank it, it synthesizes new low-end information based on your signal; in essence, adding new low-end information to where there wasn’t before. The “air” control works similarly – it brightens, and also synthesizes new top-end information and blends it in to your original sound, so that you can add an unprecedented amount of top clarity where you only had a little bit before. Even though the Omni Channel has a compressor, it’s not parallel compression, which is a specific technique that has become an essential piece of modern music. That’s where Parallel Particles comes in for the knockout. Either one works superb on their own – but put them together and you’ve got one beast of a signal chain.
