[Don't go on Autopilot During Open Enrollment]
Ă‚
It’s that time of year again: Open Enrollment is your annual opportunity to make the benefits choices that are right for you and your family—so take advantage of it and review your 2017 options carefully. Surprisingly, more than half of employees (56 percent) spend less than 15 minutes researching the benefits available to them, and 90 percent choose the exact same benefits year-over-year, possibly losing out on new and better plans and valuable savings.
You owe it to yourself—and your wallet—to do your Open Enrollment homework. Here are three tips to remember:Â
- Pay attention to employer communications. Open Enrollment can feel overwhelming, but your employer, and WageWorks, are here to help. Keep an eye out for emails and flyers explaining benefits plans, attend Open Enrollment meetings, and sign up for webinars or brown bag meetings to get your questions answered.Ă‚
- Evaluate all the options. While your employer may hold a passive opt-in for next year’s benefits—meaning if you don’t do anything, you are choosing to re-enroll without making any changes—it’s always wise to review your choices. This is particularly important if there’s been a change in your personal situation, related to your finances, family, or your health. Plus, your employer may be offering new pre-tax benefits this year, such as a Health Savings Account (HSA) or Commuter Benefits program, that would help you save money on 2017 expenses.Â
- Tap into available resources. Doing the math when comparing benefits plans can pay off nicely and save you hundreds and sometimes thousands of dollars. Check out the variety of WageWorks resources designed to help you understand your choices, including [savings calculators for pre-tax benefits], short [how-to videos], and [FAQs].

[Participant Questions, Answered]
Ă‚
If you have questions about your WageWorks benefits, we’re here to help. We recently heard from one WageWorks participant via social media who wanted clarification about receipts—specifically: When do I need to submit receipts and when do I not? Good question! In fact, we thought it was such an important topic, we dedicated an entire blog post to it. Read our recent blog post, “[When (and Why) are Receipts Required,]” and bookmark our [Claims and Reimbursements FAQ] page for more information.
