The official was believed to be trying to defect to North Korea. [[CNN / Gawon Bae and Jake Kwon](] - North Korean troops found the man Tuesday on a floating object near the countries’ disputed maritime border. He had disappeared from a government ship that was looking into unauthorized fishing on the South Korean side of the boundary on Monday. [[Associated Press / Hyung-Jin Kim](] - Claims that the 47-year-old official with the oceans and fisheries ministry was defecting were met with skepticism — defections from North to South Korea are fairly common, but to go the other direction is highly unusual.
