The warriors of Ukraine who face down Putin’s forces every day, the people of Ukraine who are subject to bombardment and annihilation without us — they need our help most urgently and most acutely. And Trump, Johnson, and the MAGA-right want to abandon them. They are appeasing Russia in a way far worse than even Neville Chamberlain did with Germany before the Second World War. Chamberlain believed he was pursuing peace by appeasing Hitler. Trump and the MAGA-right know they are giving Putin the upper hand. There is a chance — a small chance, but a chance — that we can pressure the Republicans who still back Ukraine to come to the table and pass additional support. It is critical that we do. Because the cost of abandoning Ukraine and allowing Russia to win is far greater than what it will take to get Ukraine the resources they need.
