Donald Trump has shown that he does not have the faintest idea of what valor means, or bravery, or self sacrifice. He does not understand these things, and he does not value them. [VoteVets] {NAME}, You have no doubt heard Trump’s shameful comments about the brave few who earned our nation’s highest, most sacred Military honor — the Medal of Honor. In comparing the Medal of Honor to the Presidential Medal of Freedom, Trump’s degradation of the award we revere so highly is not his only error. Despite Trump’s comments, there is no equivalent award to the Medal of Honor. None. It has been given to fallen Americans who shielded their comrades from grenades with their own bodies. Who dragged the wounded from harm's way, repeatedly, at the risk of their own lives. Who put themselves between the enemy and their friends against all odds, with complete disregard for their own survival. For outstanding courage, for self sacrifice, for extraordinary valor in combat. In Trump’s case, you are awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom for being a political ally or a donor. And, apparently, he thinks that’s “better” than someone who receives the Medal of Honor. This is a window into who Trump truly is. As I said, Trump’s degradation of this honor is not his only error. In doing so, he reinforces what we have known for years: Donald Trump does not have the faintest idea of what valor means, or bravery, or self sacrifice. He does not understand these things, and he does not value them. A man who asked “What was in it for them?” at the grave of a fallen Marine cannot be trusted to order the finest, most powerful Military in the history of the world into combat. He cannot be expected to discharge the solemn responsibility that these fighting men and women are owed. But today, as you read this, Donald Trump stands on the precipice of becoming president once more. It is up to us to prevent that from happening. Our Military deserves a leader with honor, with respect, with understanding. I’m proud to join VoteVets in their work to defeat Trump, once and for all. And today, I am asking you to support that work. [Please, if you are able, make a donation to VoteVets.
