A wild ride: Vortex launched one year ago TODAY

We’re celebrating all that we’ve achieved together, and looking at the year ahead. It’s a big day, {NAME}! Vortex took off exactly one year ago today.  It all started with a conversation the two of us had after the last election: “What’s next?”  So we sat down and sketched out a wild idea on the back of a napkin: What if we flipped all four congressional seats?  What would it take to pull this off? Who do we need? How long would it take? What are the ripple effects from organizing at this scale?  For the next two months, we met with stakeholders and started assembling our team.  A lot of people we talked to loved the idea. Very few believed we could do it – but you did. Through your contributions, your nominations, and your participation:  We set out to engage Arkansans across the state and we did that.  We set out to foster partnerships among various organizations and we are doing that.  We set out to identify four congressional candidates and we did that. Never before has an organization directly organized Democrats to win over every federal seat representing Arkansas in Washington by recruiting ordinary Arkansans rooted in community and ready to lead.  This goes far beyond November – we are building for the long haul.  The next nine months will be all hands on deck, supporting all four campaigns with training, access to experts, volunteer recruitment, and elevating their message to the widest audience possible.  We have plans to run TV ads, radio spots, send mailers, put up billboards, and run the biggest voter mobilization drive Arkansas has ever seen.  We’ll be working in ALL 75 counties, training the staff and volunteers we need not only for our current candidates to succeed, but for the next generation of political leaders and organizers to come.  That’s a tall order, and we need a lot of resources to make it work.
