{NAME} – It’s been a busy month for news about abortion rights, and I’m afraid it isn’t good news. If you haven’t seen the latest updates, let me briefly catch you up.  TEXAS A 31-year-old mother of two from Dallas was faced with a medical emergency – her 20-week pregnancy was diagnosed with a chromosomal anomaly called trisomy 18. This rare pregnancy complication is absolutely fatal to the fetus and, if left untreated, often to the mother as well. Kate was in agonizing pain, and the treatment she needed was an abortion.  But Kate was forced to sue and prove that her abortion really was medically necessary under the Texas statute. After multiple rounds of court battles, Kate lost – and she was forced to flee the state to get the MEDICAL care she needed to save her life.  OHIO In September, Brittany Watts, a 33-year-old woman suffered a miscarriage at 21 weeks. She had gone to the hospital TWICE, and both times was sent home without the care she needed. When she miscarried at home, she was charged with abuse of a corpse for trying to manage the aftermath on her own. Now, in addition to grieving the loss of her baby and recovering from a life-threatening miscarriage, Brittany faces criminal charges because of the medical care she was denied.  KENTUCKY While both of these women fought for their lives in court, another woman in Kentucky filed a lawsuit against the state for the right to terminate her own eight-week pregnancy.  “Jane Doe” withheld her name to protect her right to privacy, and she is suing to have Kentucky’s near-total abortion ban declared unconstitutional under the Kentucky state constitution.  What’s happened to these women can and will (and almost certainly already has) happen to the women of Arkansas. And if Republicans in Congress get their way, it won’t stop there.  House Republicans have made it clear that they intend to pursue a national abortion ban if they get full control of Congress and the White House next year. It has never been more important that we abandon the “red state, blue state” mythology and fight for every single seat.  Arkansas has more Democrats on the ballot next year than at any other time in the last decade – thanks in no small part to all of you who supported Vortex in our statewide search to recruit someone to run for every single House seat representing Arkansas in Washington.  [Now we need your support to build competitive, winning campaigns, FLIP all four of Arkansas’s seats and take back the House majority in 2024.]( If you've saved your payment information with ActBlue Express, your donation will go through immediately: [Express Donate: $25 >> Â]( [Express Donate: $50 >> Â]( [Express Donate: $100 >>Â]( [Express Donate: $250 >>Â]( [Express Donate: $500 >>Â]( [Donate Other Amount: >>]( I wish I was finished with the bad news, but there was one more alarming development last week.  The U.S. Supreme Court confirmed that they will take up the mifepristone case, and may be set to abolish access to the FDA-approved, safe, effective medication used for terminating pregnancies AND treating miscarriages and other medical conditions.  If the far-right majority sides against women and overrules the scientific authority of the FDA, not only will it create a devastating legal precedent for undermining regulations that keep us safe, it will effectively introduce a nationwide ban on safe, medical abortions.  Already 1 in 5 pregnant women have to travel out of state to get reproductive healthcare. If medical abortions are removed as an option, women will be forced to wait longer, travel further, and have riskier procedures to get abortion care – if they can get it at all.  When Republicans tell you they will allow exceptions “for the life of the mother,” they’re lying – and these cases prove it. Exceptions like this only set judges up to be the final arbiter of medical decisions.  The ONLY people who should be allowed to make decisions about becoming pregnant or remaining pregnant are the people who get pregnant. Period.  [{NAME}, as long as Republicans remain in control, tragic cases like these will continue to happen and women will die. We need to vote like lives are on the line in 2024 – because they are.](  More soon,  Robb [Contribute to Vortex >>](      Vortex PAC is a new grassroots movement to transform Arkansas politics away from the far-right.
