Jim Jordan is the perfect candidate for Republican Speaker

(hear me out) {NAME} – As the House has resumed their attempt to appoint a new Speaker of the House, a lot of people have raised the alarm about Jim Jordan.  I get it. I don’t like the prospect of Jim Jordan being second in line to the presidency any more than you do.  But I have to admit I find some of the arguments – especially from so-called moderate Republicans – perplexing.  People have pointed out that Jordan is an election denier; that he’s been credibly accused of covering up the crimes of a serial sexual predator; that he supports a total ban on abortion with NO exceptions for any reason.  All of that (and much worse) is true. But let’s get a few facts straight.  Jim Jordan being an election denier and insurrectionist isn't a deal breaker for Republicans. They already elected Kevin McCarthy – who voted against certifying the 2020 election right alongside Jordan, Scalise, and 144 other Republicans.  Jim Jordan covering up sexual abuse of students isn't a deal breaker for Republicans. They already elected Dennis Hastert – who served as the longest-running Republican Speaker despite years of credible allegations and an eventual conviction for sexually abusing minors.  Jim Jordan believing in a total abortion ban with NO exceptions isn't a deal breaker for Republicans. They already elected Newt Gingrich.  In every way, Jim Jordan is the perfect candidate for a Republican Speaker of the House. He embodies all of their most important priorities and represents the caucus for exactly who they are.  Jim Jordan is a disaster for America. But he's perfect for Republicans.  So, I was not at all surprised this week when three of our representatives from Arkansas voted for Jim Jordan to be the next Speaker of the House – any more than I was surprised that ALL of them voted for Jordan’s fellow election-denier Kevin McCarthy.  But the people of Arkansas deserve better.
