But so is Tom Cotton. {NAME},  As I write this, Donald Trump is on his way to court again, this time to face charges related to his efforts to overturn the 2020 election.  The former president is accused of conspiring to defraud our country, to thwart Americans’ voting rights by overturning the election results, and to obstruct an official proceeding of the U.S. government by sending his supporters to the Capitol.  These crimes were committed while in office. They could have been prevented if Republicans in Congress, including every member representing Arkansas in the House AND Senate, had voted to impeach Trump. Twice, they voted to keep him, his corruption, and his criminality in the most powerful seat in the world.  And still, the GOP’s full support is behind him.  Since the release of the Grand Jury’s indictment on Tuesday, Republicans in Congress have once again joined Trump to sow doubt about the charges against him and the integrity of our Justice Department.  Yesterday, Sen. Tom Cotton added his own voice to Trump’s defense. He claimed that Democrats have also attempted to stop election certifications and that all of Trump’s actions are protected by the First Amendment.  This shameless pushing of conspiracy theories and misinformation dilutes the seriousness of Trump’s crimes and further divides voters, by creating an alternate reality in which Trump is the victim and charging him is the crime.  They will say absolutely anything to hand Trump the GOP nomination and restore their criminal president.
