It’s not actually funny

Donald Trump is in court today, and it’s no joke. {NAME} – We’ve all had a bit of fun at the photos that circulated when Donald Trump’s indictment was unsealed last week. I mean, how can you NOT laugh looking at this absurdity: [A photo of a bathroom at Mar-A-Lago stacked with boxes allegedly containing confidential, secret, and top secret documents, including boxes stacked inside the shower.]( But this is an extremely serious moment for our democracy, and Republicans are failing the test. Over the weekend, Republican members of Congress took to the media to spread lies and sow doubt about the integrity of our courts and the rule of law. This is a feature of the modern GOP – not a bug. They’ve become so proficient and persistent in spreading this dangerous misinformation that a hardened view has taken root among the MAGA movement: They are willing to go to any length to get Trump back into office. ANY length. [A graphic featuring a headline by The Guardian from their article June 9, 2023, which reads: “12 million Americans believe violence is justified to restore Trump to power.” Included is a black and white stylized photo of the January 6 insurrection at the U.S. Capitol building.]( While their fellow members of Congress are actively undermining the rule of law and promoting extremist rhetoric, the four members of Congress representing Arkansas had a typical response: Nothing. Well I *have* read it. All 49 pages. And I am deeply disturbed by the idea that someone with Kevin McCarthy’s attitude may be in control of the House majority next year when we are once again faced with certifying an election outcome that Republicans reject. We have to get the Speaker’s gavel out of McCarthy’s hands and flip the House in 2024. With the possibility of Arkansas maps being redrawn after the recent SCOTUS decision, we have a real opportunity to pick up multiple surprise victories here in the South.
