Today’s SCOTUS decision could have implications for Arkansas as well. {NAME} – The Supreme Court handed down a MAJOR decision today that directly impacts voting rights for millions of Americans. [A graphic featuring a headline from NBC News which reads: “Supreme Court backs landmark voting rights law, strikes down Alabama congressional map. The justices threw out Republican-drawn congressional districts that a lower court said discriminated against Black voters.]( In a 5-4 decision on the landmark redistricting case, Allen v. Milligan, SCOTUS upheld Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act and in the process, tossed out Alabama’s gerrymandered congressional maps. This is a huge victory for the voters of Alabama, and it may have implications here in Arkansas, as well. Voting rights experts are currently tracking 31 additional lawsuits citing a violation of Section 2 that are still pending in federal court – including two cases in Arkansas. Arkansas’ gerrymandered maps splintered the Black population of Pulaski County in the very same way the Alabama maps impacted their voters. It was a legislative coup that diluted the political power of Black voters and protected Republicans – like French Hill, the congressman representing Pulaski County – in the process. We’re fighting back against undemocratic tactics like gerrymandering by mobilizing voters across the state to flip ALL FOUR congressional seats in Arkansas. If Republicans in Arkansas were so confident that their ideas could win elections on their own merits, they wouldn’t need to resort to dirty tricks like gerrymandering and voter suppression. We’ll have to wait for more information to know if today’s ruling extends to Arkansas and forces lawmakers to draw new maps for 2024. [But here’s what we can do now: Donate to Vortex today, as generously as you can.]( For too long, people have counted out states like Arkansas and Alabama. Now the path to retaking the House majority clearly runs through the South.  The courts may yet swing a victory our way, but we’re not waiting. Our team is working around the clock to build on the grassroots movement we started last year and FLIP these seats. Let’s go! Dr. Chris Jones Co-Founder [Contribute to Vortex PAC](      Vortex PAC is a new grassroots movement to transform Arkansas politics away from the far-right. We are recruiting, training, and supporting Democratic candidates to flip all four of Arkansas’ U.S. congressional districts and help win back the House majority in 2024.
