We are horrified and saddened. {NAME},  J.D. Vance, Trump's VP pick, has shown his true colors - and they're as ugly as they come.  Content warning: Domestic violence  Vance believes women should stay in violent marriages "for the children."  His words:  "This is one of the great tricks that I think the sexual revolution pulled on the American populace, which is the idea that...these marriages were fundamentally...maybe even violent, but certainly they were unhappy.  And so getting rid of them and making it easier for people to shift spouses like they change their underwear, that's going to make people happier in the long term…And maybe it worked out for the moms and dads...But it really didn't work out for the kids of those marriages." [A photo of J.D. Vance talking on a stage with a quote from one of his speeches overlaid saying, “these marriages were fundamentally...maybe even violent”]( This rhetoric is dangerous. It suggests trapping victims in life-threatening situations. It tells abusers their behavior is acceptable. It's an insult to every Arkansan affected by domestic violence and a dangerous misunderstanding of the issue.  And in our state, that's far too many. Arkansas ranks 10th nationwide for domestic violence, with over 40% of our women facing intimate partner violence in their lifetimes.  J.D. Vance is not the only one who refuses to protect women, our leaders in Arkansas are complicit. How did our "representatives" in Congress respond when given the chance to reauthorize the Violence Against Women Act in 2021?  All four - Crawford, Hill, Womack, and Westerman - voted NO.  This critical legislation would have extended protections to cover dating partners, not just spouses, and provided more resources for law enforcement to combat domestic violence.  These vital provisions save lives and protect families, but they chose to put politics over the safety of Arkansas women and families.  Arkansas, we deserve so much better.  [That's why Vortex recruited Caitlin Draper and Rodney Govens. These aren't just politicians - they're fighters who've been in the trenches. (And Vortex is working hard to get them get elected!)]( [A graphic of Vortex candidates Caitlin Draper, running for Arkansas’s 3rd congressional district, and Rodney Govens, running for Arkansas’s 1st congressional district.]( Caitlin, a social worker, has helped survivors escape abuse and rebuild their lives.  Rodney, as a Court Appointed Special Advocate, has protected children caught in the crossfire of domestic violence.  They’ve been on the front lines of how domestic violence impacts our community. They'll fight for real change and support for survivors. Unlike J.D. Vance's comments and the votes of our Arkansas reps, which leave people vulnerable in abusive relationships every single day.  [We can flip all four of Arkansas' seats and elect leaders who will actually protect Arkansas families. But we need your help. Chip in $25, $50, $75, $100, whatever you can today. Let's show Vance and our do-nothing representatives that Arkansas stands against domestic violence.]( If you've saved your payment information with ActBlue Express, your donation will go through immediately: [  Express Donate: $25  Â]( [  Express Donate: $50  Â]( [  Express Donate: $100 Â]( [  Express Donate: $250 Â]( [  Express Donate: $500 Â]( [  Donate Other Amount  Â]( Together, we can make a difference in the lives of those affected by domestic violence and create a brighter future for our state.
